Hello there!
I wanted to inform you of several misconceptions today that many people still have.
Misconception#1
” I don’t live in a flood zone, so I don’t need flood insurance.”
Well, according to Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) flooding is still the largest natural disaster in this country. You are required to have it if you are in a high- hazard flood zone.
However, most of the floods do come from homes that are not in those zones, but in moderate-to-low hazard flood zones. Consider the fact that homeowner’s insurance policies do not cover flood and that is a separate policy. Rain or surface water leaking into the basement and causing damage is not covered under a homeowner’s policy, only on a flood policy.
Misconception #2.
“My Home value has declined , so I should be able to lower my limits to help save money.”
In some areas of the country, property values have been hurt. Some consumers are considering reducing policy limits as a way to save on homeowner premiums. However, it’s important to realize that market value declines have nothing to do with replacement cost of your home.(if you did not receive my latest tip on “Do you have enough coverage,” please inform me) The replacement of your home is in most instances going up mainly because of inflationary factors.
Misconception #3.
“Adding my boat to my homeowner’s policy will provide adequate protection while out on the water.”
Remember that adding boat coverage on your homeowner’s policy does not mean that you are fully covered. Why? Because, your homeowner’s policy does not cover water sport liability, motor damage, towing expenses, or even coverage for ice or rain.
Misconception #4.
“The gap insurance offered by my car dealer was a waste of money.”
Consumers contemplating buying a new car and financing for one don’t always consider getting gap insurance on their own or when it’s offered at the dealership. While loan or lease gap coverage can provide added protection for clients who purchase a new vehicle, buying the coverage from the dealership is typically more expensive than asking an insurance provider directly.
Remember to think of me when contemplating a new car , buying a boat, flood insurance, or even know of anyone needing a quote or second opinion on their insurance needs.
